Social Graces are important :)

During the past week, what occasions did you have for speaking to others? Did you receive a call or introduce two people? Did you order lunch at a restaurant? Make a list of the ordinary social occasions for oral language, including such things as these: daily greetings and good-byes; greetings and farewells at a party; answering the telephone; taking a message and delivering to someone; making a purchase; being a luncheon guest at the home of a friend; giving directions as to how to find a street.

I

n all the occasions you list, courtesy plays an important part. Knowing what to say and how to say it will save you a great deal of embarrassment.

Each person has to learn the social graces through practice and experience. Few things are more important for your happiness and enjoyment of others, and yet success in a career.

Since knowing the right thing yo say and the way to say it is a matter of definite information, plan a courtesy crusade. Here are some things to do :

1. Find books on manners and courtesy.

2. List some questions to which you wish to find answers, consult the books for answers, and discuss them.

3. Find and read stories, anecdotes, poems, and sayings about courteous behavior.

4. Look for courtesy phrases.

5. Prepare an assembly program on courtesy.

Have fun teaching! Tips :)
